Labor Market Information (LMI) Analysis
Identifies industry sectors best suited to a local community’s available workforce, and what training might be required to attract potential employers. The LMI analysis examines the experience and skills of a local workforce, and relates those to existing local industrial skill needs. This helps communities identify the industry sectors best suited to their workforce, and also what training may be needed to attract employers. The LMI includes data on the labor force, employment and unemployment, industrial growth, occupational trends, and wage rates. | - Not enough innovative economic development taking place
- Not enough jobs or economic opportunities for local residents
|
- Can address issues of unemployment, underemployment, an under-skilled labor force, lack of career development ladders, and lack of entrepreneurship
- Can help increase educational attainment and training, diversify workforce, and reduce the spatial mismatch of jobs and housing
- Could entail location quotient analysis which requires specialized expertise
- No single model exists for resolution, instead multiple opportunities might be found
- Requires data assembly and possibly interviews of local firms and workers
- Sub-area (cities or counties) statistics are not always available and may require combinations of various data sets
