| Local artists preserving the past | The City of Dillard is working to create a cultural center in the former Dillard Community School and Cannery buildings. Both buildings are in the process of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cannery was constructed in 1935 with the assistance of the WPA and was used as a lunchroom for the school until 1942. For generations, members of the community gathered not only to preserve the fruits and vegetables grown locally, but also to share their knowledge and build relationships.
